Bike-training---San-Cristobal-de-las-Casas

Triathlon training: San Cristobal de las Casas, Mexico

Triathlon: Important part of our digital nomad lifestyle is to be fit, both mentally and physically. Training and participating in triathlon events during our travels is something we both love to do. Steven coming from an athletics background (400m) and Diana from mountain biking. Central America is a paradise for those who like to run trail or on the road, swim in open water and bike incredible climbs no one ever saw before. We write about our training, training locations and the road to triathlon events we participate in during our travels. Training and traveling is easier than you think! Enjoy the read!

Swimming

Deportivo San Cristobal A.C. offers opportunity to swim in a 25-meter indoor pool. This is a relatively big sports facility that offers nice changing rooms with showers and toilets, a gym (indoor), tennis lanes (outdoor), soccer fields (outdoor), classes of aerobics, zumba, thai chi and more. It has a restaurant (indoor) that serves healthy breakfasts for athletes. The showers at the swimming pool are one of the best we had in Mexico. Hot and strong. Location: Prolongación Ignacio Allende s/n, near the Sams, San Cristobal de las Casas, Chiapas, Mexico. Phone: (967) 678-3042. Admission: 200MXN per week. Open: 7 days a week.

Biking

The hills around San Cristobal are a great playing ground for cyclists. Climbing to an altitude of 2,500 meters, it offers great off-road single track and trails as well as hairpin challenges for road bikers. One of the best routes in this area takes you to Parque Ecoturistico “Grutas de Rancho Nuevo”. We also love to ride through the indígenas villages that you find all around San Cristobal. An interesting route leaves San Cristobal to the east taking the old road towards San Felipe Ecatepec, to make this complete also pay a visit to tsotsil communities of San Juan Chamula and Zinacantán.

Running

San Cristobal de las Casas has an outdoor sports park called Cedem (Centro Deportivo Municipal), that offers ample opportunity to work out. It has a six lane running track, an outdoor gym, soccer fields, basketball fields, squash (outdoor) and a street hockey area. Ask any taxi driver to take you to CEDEM (25 MXN) or take the bike and a lock. Cedem is on the same road as the Chedraui supermarket. Location: Bulevar Juan Sabines Gutiérrez S/N, San Cristobal de las Casas, Chiapas, Mexico. Phone: n/a. Admission: free. Open: 7 days a week.
